What you need to know alt

PLEASE NOTE:
Marriages in Anglican churches in Jersey are dependent upon residential qualification.

You may marry in one of our churches if:
                 1) You are resident in the Parish of St Brelade.
                 2) You have a demonstrable pastoral connection i.e. your parents live in
the Parish, you or your parents did live in the Parish, your parents or
grandparents were married here/ buried in the churchyard etc..

If none of these apply to you then you will need to create a personal pastoral connection to our church by attending church on  a regular basis, without these connections you cannot be married here under Jersey Ecclesiastical Law.

Non-Residents may have a 'Service of Blessing' following a Civil Ceremony either at the Registry Office or one of the other venues available on the Island.

In The Church of England the re-marriage of divorcees is at the discretion of the marrying officer (clergy). In St Brelade we try to meet people in an open and generous way, if one or other of you is divorced you will need to meet first with the Rector to talk about the possibility of a church wedding.

Bookings are normally made through the Rectory by telephone ( (01534) 742302). Alternatively, you may contact us by email. These need to be made in person as we cannot work through a third party e.g. a Wedding Planner.

There are usually 2 interviews prior to the wedding which will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions and be assured that all the arrangements for the day will run smoothly. If you do not live in the Parish, a Dean's Licence will be required which will be organised for you at your first interview (current fee £75).

A deposit of £50 GBP is required to secure your booking, which will be deducted from your final bill. This is non-refundable in case of cancellation.

For your information: Current charges are £568.50 for those who do not pay rates in St Brelade and £375.00 for those who do pay rates (as at 1st January 2010). The residency applies to you or your fiancee not the residency of your parents. Fees for subsequent years may vary as they are set by The Dean of Jersey at the beginning of each year.
